About Jake
Jake Tuel has lived in Akron, Ohio all his life and is proud to call it his home. He is married, and his wife Susan helps with the day to day operations of the shop. At age 12 he began playing the guitar, and modifying instruments was a passion from early on. He started working at Lay’s Guitar in Akron, Ohio in 1992. There he cultivated his talent under the guidance of Dan Shinn.
On His Own
In 1998 he struck out on his own, armed with the knowledge of guitar repair and restoration and further guidance from experienced luthiers kind enough to share their secrets. Also, respected manufacturers such as the Martin Guitar Company offered further training in the methods of vintage repair. Over the past 20 years, Jake has had the privilege to work on many exciting and wonderful vintage instruments that truly shape today’s modern guitars.
